Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Pathophysiology of Urolithiasis

چکیده
Context: Urolithiasis (UL) is one of the most common diseases, with worldwide increasing incidence and prevalence. The pathogenesis of calcium oxalate (CaOx) UL, which accounts for>80% of all urinary stones, is only incompletely understood. Objective: Our aim was to review trends in epidemiology and current concepts for the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of urinary stone disease. Evidence acquisition: We reviewed data from the literature and our own series. Evidence synthesis: Urinary stone formation is a result of different mechanisms. Completely different pathomechanisms lead to CaOx stone formation, with Randall plaques playing a key role in the pathogenesis. Conclusions: The lithogenesis of key stones is multifactorial. Lifestyle and dietary choices are important contributing factors. The pathogenesis and pathophysiology of CaOx stones is still incompletely understood. Recent evidence suggests a primary interstitial apatite crystal formation that secondarily leads to CaOx stone formation. # 2010 European Association of Urology. Published by Elsevier B.V. Epidemiology, pathophysiology, and management of uric acid urolithiasis: A narrative review
An in-depth comprehension of the epidemiology as well as pathophysiology of uric acid urolithiasis is important for the identification, treatment, and prophylaxis of calculi in these patients. Persistently low urinary pH, hyperuricosuria, and low urinary volume are the most important factors in pathogenesis of uric acid urolithiasis. Other various causes of calculus formation comprises of chron...

Feline urolithiasis represents 15% of all cases of nonobstructive lower urinary tract disease in cats. Approximately 50% of feline uroliths are composed of struvite. Struvite urolithiasis commonly recurs, but optimal management may decrease its frequency. The pathophysiology and management of struvite urolithiasis are different in cats and dogs. This article focuses on struvite urolithiasis in ...
متن کاملElevated serum levels of Vitamin D in infants with urolithiasis.
INTRODUCTION The pathophysiology of urolithiasis in infancy is not well known. The aim of this study was to investigate whether infants with urolithiasis have higher serum levels of vitamin D, as a possible risk factor for urolithiasis, compared to infants without urinary calculi. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this case-control study, 36 infants with urolithiasis (age range, 2.5 to 24 months) were...
